How We Pick Our Autumn Locations
What exactly is the secret to secret locations? Are any of these places actually gatekept? How are these locations found? These are all questions that I'm often asked relating to the landscapes where I take my fall photography clients to.
The long story short is that in Edmonton specifically we have so many places where we can take dynamic and exciting photos. Oftentimes, it has nothing to do with the precise location it's the composition, lighting, and vibrancy that help us to create a fantastic photo.
So, how are these locations found by people like me? A lot of it actually has to do with trial and error. Sometimes clients will have a place in mind that they would love to have their photo taken such as a cabin, valley close to their home, or a golf course where they love to spend their free time. Though, more often than not clients are very open to seeing what locations I like to take my clients too.
I find that Edmonton's River Valley is often overlooked by many people as a backdrop for photographs. Between all of the parks, rivers, and ponds in Edmonton (and more specifically within the River Valley itself) we have so many places where we can take photos.
This is exactly why no client that comes to you will ever get precisely the same backdrop twice. We work together to find a space that fits the size of the group and the general vibe that they want to achieve with their photographs, and then we go from there.
My suggestion if you're looking to take some fall photos this year is that you just venture out and see what area feels right. After all, Edmonton's River Valley is over 18,000 acres.
